Parents lend a large helping hand in shaping one's identity and life. Not only do they guide us through our childhoods, but they are also the biggest supporters of our goals. My mother has been a defining figure in my life, taking on many hardships to provide the opportunities given to my brother and me. Thus, I wanted to emphasize her hard-working and admirable character by painting a painting of her in a setting that focused on her identity as not only a mother but also as a strong athlete.

Exploring and expressing my creativity has given me a myriad of opportunities to connect with those around me. I think that art allows people to express a message deeper than can be expressed through words. By observing others' art pieces, I think I have empathized with and understood many artists.
