My piece was inspired and based on a photo that I took of my friend outside our art class one day. From there, I decided what media I was going to use and how I was going to use the empty space and foreshortening to create a dynamic art piece. Ultimately, I decided to do a mixed media piece with watercolor for the figure and then black ink pens for the background and stairs. As the piece progressed, the shoes became the focal point of the painting, which lead to my decision to keep a simple white and black background.

Being able to express creativity through art has impacted my life. It has allowed me to have an outlet during school when things become overwhelming. Being in the art room is akin to taking a deep breath, and I can let go of all the stress of my day for an hour.
