Self-Care

Stephania L.

  • My art piece I named "Self-Care" depicts a person and their reflection in the mirror with paint and oil pastel. When creating this, from the start I wanted to juxtapose monotone hues with color. The monotone is supposed to represent the negative emotions the woman is feeling and how she sees the world. Meanwhile, her reflection is in color reaching through the mirror to comfort herself and share her color. Through this artwork, I wanted to show the ability of people to be their own light in dark times and show that they are never alone when they have themselves.

  • Exploring my creativity has given my life some meaning since I use my art as an outlet for my emotions, as a way to bring attention to issues, and as a way to inspire others. The limits to art are endless and through art, I can express anything that may be hard to put into words.
