Portrait of an Old Man

Claudia B.

  • My artwork is an oil pastel portrait that features an elderly man with a solemn face. When creating this piece, I wanted to capture the subtleties in the man's expression. I also aimed to produce a sense of ambiguity in regards to the man's profession and time of existence. The piece evokes questions such as: Is the man a sailor? Perhaps a philosopher? Is he from the 17th century? Modern times?

  • Expressing my creativity gives me a sense of purpose in my life and allows me to feel that I impact the world. Art is everlasting and eternal. That sense of permanence with art comforts me in the face of the absurd and the notion of death. One day I will be gone, but my art will persist.
