Peace and Serenity

Harsha K.

  • This piece was primarily influenced by my love and respect for Japan and its culture. I have always loved Japan and have always wanted to go there. From its illustrious artwork like the Great Wave of Kanagawa (my favorite piece of artwork), boundary-breaking innovation, and even anime, I love the beauty of the culture. My favorite part of that culture however is its magnificent landscapes, especially the grand Mount Fuji, and the elegance of its cherry blossoms, which have quickly become a staple in my household. I highlight this in my painting, using simply acrylic paints, and a few brushes. The simplicity of this artwork also gives it a deeper meaning as there are only a few elements in it but they all come together to create an overall pleasing theme. This theme furthermore enhances another aspect of Japanese culture I really enjoy, which is its emphasis on peace, and serenity. I feel that the steady water, the gentle flow of the cherry blossoms, the clear blue skies, and the grand yet pure Mount Fuji in the background illustrate these values perfectly. The elegance in the simplicity of this piece and its relaxing tone truly make it a piece easy on the eyes and one that has a deeper meaning behind it. I loved how this piece turned out, especially the cherry blossoms, and continue to love making similar pieces of artwork that are calm and bring eyes to ease. I can easily say that this has been my favorite and most fun piece to create as this piece made me be fluid with my strokes and think about every little detail and in the end, I am happy with how it turned out.

  • Doing art, whether it be designing my shoes, painting, or even just doodling, impacts my life by giving me an outlet where I can release everything and just go into a zone. It's like my "therapy", it helps me stay relaxed and lets my creative mind flow with ideas, and just allows me to be me.
