I created this piece with the app Procreate on my iPad. I began with a rough sketch of the figure, and then blocked out colors and attempted a more painterly style. Before this portrait, I tended to do mostly lineart, but decided to experiment with my style. The most difficult challenges were rendering the texture of the skin, specifically around the neck area, as well as illustrating the golden jewelry. The colors were also difficult, as the portrait I referenced had multiple different colored light sources. In the end, I worked on this portrait for a long time, and was actually pleasantly surprised how it came out.

Using digital art to express my creativity has provided me with an outlet for emotions that are difficult to describe, and I use art to process those emotions. It also is a way to ground myself and to be present in the moment when I’m having a bad day or just need to get my mind off of something.
