This art piece is part of a project that I am submitting for my AP portfolio. I wanted to convey the emotions of nostalgia as well as re-connecting with childhood in this piece by using the setting of an old arcade. The drawing depicts a father teaching his son how to play an old video game that he enjoyed growing up. This relates to some of my own personal experiences as well, as some of the closest bonds I have with my father are from sharing his favorite music and shows from when he was younger. The overall goal of my portfolio is to display how adults can find joy and finding their creativity, youth, and curiosity once again as they face struggles and stress while growing up. I wanted the colors and lighting to stand out especially for this piece, which is why I chose to create it digitally even though that is not one of my more frequently used mediums.

I have always deeply enjoyed creating characters and settings that reflect my personal experiences as well as my aspirations or ideas. Drawing/creating art was also something I often used as a coping mechanism during the pandemic.
