  • The inspiration for this piece was the feeling of frustration when doing homework. After painting a background, I printed and cut up some of my real old essays and collaged them on top. The composition is meant to emulate the feeling of being overwhelmed by your work because everything looks like it's coming crashing down - and then burning. The red and blue streaks were to represent feeling angry, sad, and all the negative emotions you feel when you don't understand something, or have too much to do, or are just burnt out from school. "Just A Kid" is a reminder that high schoolers are truly still just kids, and that impossibly high expectations only lead in the wrong direction. I added a purple "C" in the bottom corner because I am a mixture of all these emotions (C is my initial) - and purple is a mix of blue and red.

  • The role creativity plays in my life is one of escapism. Whether it's painting, figure drawing, writing, or photography, expressing creativity temporarily wipes away the outside world and my worries. I am constantly seeking out opportunities to expand on what I know.
