Into a Fantasy World

I was first inspired by a book-toker who creates book nooks. I found more inspiration in fantasy books such as Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and on Pinterest. I hoped to create a piece that could live on a bookshelf among books and fit right in. I wanted to create the illusion that you could turn in the alley and continue to walk on, after some geometry and measurements I found the right size of mirror needed and the perfect angle to achieve such a look. To create the bricks I used air-dry clay and shaped each and every brick to fit onto the floor and walls. I then added a coat of acrylic paint and mod podge to hold it all together. I wanted to add a source of light to the nook to give it a warmer and more homely feel to it while it sits amongst the books that bring so much joy and comfort. I used fairy lights and made a little lamp out of wire to give the illusion that it was emitting light from it as well.

Crafting allows me to relax while also being able to feel productive and create art that I feel proud of. I love being able to express my love for things through creation and art. Being creative and designing gifts for my friends and family also assists me in expressing my love for them.
