Girl by Megan Mostyn-Brown

  • This particular monologue wasn't chosen because I felt a personal connection to Hannah or the circumstances she was in. I choose this monologue because I was touched by how she felt. Her numbness after her sister's death seemed so reasonable after I researched the play and what she went through before this moment. Hannah felt like a real being to me, someone I knew, and I just couldn't help but feel empathy towards her. I wanted to hug and reassure this stranger, someone who lived as words on sheets of paper. And I wanted her to come alive. I believe she did, at the very end of the monologue.

  • Although some elements in theatre are fictional, theatre is just a magnified reflection of the reality we live in. Through the theatrical lens, one can realize existing problems, and because theatre is so true to life, I feel part of something bigger and more meaningful.
