In Two by Francisco Gella

This piece is a contemporary duet created by Francisco Gella called In Two, performed by myself and my duet partner, Felix Fulton. This piece tells the story of an artist and his muse, and the relationship between the two. However, the costume and choreography allows for the audience to interpret the movement into the story they desire. This piece was set in October and has been in the works since then. It requires us to have an understanding of each others movement. The weight transfer and shifts needed in order to complete the partner work challenges us to go to new lengths of understanding our own movement and how it translates into a story. We had a really fun time bonding over the piece and watching it grow and improve as well as watching ourselves grow and improve. The costume design played a big role in the execution of the piece as it creates for the visual aspect of the dance to be enhanced. The choice to put me (Juliette Strage) in the intricately designed modern-patterned costume and contrast it with Felix (Fulton)'s simple black attire lets the audience interpret what the harsh contrast means to them. Overall, this process of creating and working on this performance piece has made us both better dancers and as we continue on this path performing and working on it this year.

Dance has been a part of my life since before I can remember. I have learned how to express my emotions through movement which has led me to have a sense of maturity and deeper understanding of my body. My passion to explore my creativity has pushed me to always work hard and strive to be great.
