From Inside the Cage

My artwork, titled "From Inside the Cage," is part of a series of drawings and paintings that I've created to explore how human beings have an impact on the lives of the animals we share the planet with. In this painting, we see the faces of people from an animal's point of view. The animal, who is on public view at a fair, cowers in fear behind a cage's bars as people stare, point, shout, and take pictures of them.
The artwork is a mixed-media piece that incorporates watercolor, India ink pen, and metallic marker. It was done on Arches cold-press watercolor paper.
This is really my favorite artwork of the series so far, and I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, especially the expressions on the faces of the children.

Exploring and expressing my creativity is central to who I am. I am an artist, a musician, and a craftsperson who makes jewelry, so there usually isn't a time when I'm not being creative in some way. Expressing my creativity helps me affirm who I am and each thing I do reflects the way I see myself.
