Forming Ganesha

Antara M.

  • Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival when the Hindu god Ganesha is celebrated for 10 days. Among many other rituals, my favorite is making a clay statue of Ganesha. Doing this activity not only carries religious significance for me, but is a tradition that reminds me of my rich culture and heritage. In this painting, my hands are molding the clay and painting it to form a finished idol that will be kept for the rest of the festival.

  • Expressing my creativity through art allows me to communicate complex details about myself in a tangible, visual way. I want people to understand parts of my identity that I illustrate through my artwork, and by understanding me, I hope they understand people like me who share my experiences.
