Firearm by Lizzy McAlpine

Stephanie D.

  • This is my acoustic rendition of Lizzy McAlpine's "firearm." I find it so cathartic to sing her lyrics through the lens of my own life experience. While I've never had any encounters with drugs or alcohol, I do understand what it feels like to succumb to self-sabotage after a traumatic event. To me, this song sits right on the edge of collapse after a heartbreak, nearly erupting in the bridge, yet ultimately keeping itself composed through gritted teeth. I did my best to convey this emotion through my performance.

  • Creativity lets me explore the facets of my identity. It's a conduit for experimentation. When I'm singing, my voice takes me to new places that I wouldn't be able to find if I were to play things strictly by the book.
