In my family, dim sum is a monthly staple on Sunday mornings. This art piece aims to highlight one of the best parts about dim sum: sharing delicious food with your loved ones! The center of the table features steamer baskets filled with siu maai and buns, a plate of iconic egg tarts, and a pot of hot tea. Dim sum dishes are made in small portions, which allows people to order and try a variety of plates! The scene shows different people grabbing food with chopsticks from the center dishes, and a person on the left enjoying a nice cup of tea.
Every item in this piece was modeled in Blender, a free 3D computer graphics software. Building artwork in 3D feels like a completely different experience; it only takes simple tools to create virtually any object. Compared to traditional or digital art, the power to easily manipulate camera angles and lighting in 3D space is simply unmatched. I chose to keep everything in a cartoon-ish style with solid or gradient-colored materials to reflect a playful and warm atmosphere.

My creativity allows me to approach things from a new perspective and add a certain sparkle that others can appreciate. I love the process of having an idea come into fruition, where in the end, I have something I am immensely proud of that reflects the time and effort I put into it.
