Curiosity

This piece was one of the first pieces I have ever made on a pottery wheel. Before throwing this piece, I was frustrated at the lack of symmetry and roundness of the bowls I had made before. I took up pottery on my own and have been self-taught. I never did very much art before now because I have never had any practice or training. Pottery was one of the first creative outlets I tried and really enjoyed. Since starting it, I have learned to value the pieces that I make that aren't perfect or even something that would be considered ""good."" This mindset has opened up many doors in other aspects of my life for kindness and empathy towards myself in trying new things and celebrating growth, big or small. This piece was a bowl that was not technically very good, but I decided to hand sculpt it instead of throwing it away. I ended up with a piece I'm very proud of, and it represents my love for all imperfect art, especially my own. The bold color makes it a piece that draws your eyes in, because I don't want it to blend in with the background of a room. It should be celebrated and appreciated.

    Thank you for your consideration.

  • My work allows me to express myself and learn more about myself in the process. It allows me to create art from my experiences and from my life and bring them to life. By doing this I am able to learn about myself and express myself.
