CGDAE mvt 2

Aiden L.

  • The piece is the second movement of a string quartet I wrote titled CGDAE. It is in the Dorian mode, which gives off a sort of hopeful yet serious tone. At the beginning of the piece, the different instruments build upon each other until a quieter, sort of playful section comes in. This ends with a slow section which builds up tension until the release, where the second violin holds a harmonic G, the fifth of the scale. the song builds again from an uneasy but optimistic sounding variation of the main theme. After this build, the first violin plays a harmonic glissando from the g3 harmonic all the way to the g5 harmonic and back while the cello alternates plucking between the minor 7th and the tonic, ending the piece in the Mixolydian mode (a major scale with a flat 7).

  • Writing music has always been a passion of mine, ever since I was little. Making music is the only thing that makes sense to me, and I will never let it go. Whether it be a string quartet or a pop song, writing music is the most beautiful feeling.
