Nocturne Fantasy

This piece was composed during May to June of 2022, and was initially only meant to be for solo piano. However, as time progressed, I realized that a symphonic realization would be more appropriate. I scored this piece after an exciting 3-day vacation to Los Angeles where my family decided to visit Disneyland. The sound of the “magical kingdom” certainly influenced my ultimate decision of orchestration.
I utilize percussion, strings, woodwinds, and chamber instruments to give this piece a so-called “night time vibe”. I imagined the piece to be played at night on a soothing journey back from vacation. It’s relaxing, cute, and at times contains flares of dramatism.
Once again, the musical form is typical for my style: like many of its predecessors, it is in rondo form, ABACA. However, I decided to be even more bold on my musical journey this time by constructing an entirely new melody (albeit with the same chord progressions) for the second repeat. The key changes in this piece are also somewhat erratic, which is further testament to my experimental style.
With smooth arpeggios and constant chromaticism, this piece demonstrates a much happier, calmer side to my compositions. It also shows that I have the ability to work with various melodies, harmonies, and key changes.

In music and writing I find solace knowing that I have achieved a profound purpose in life. I'm pleased to know I can live beyond myself through my works of art, that I can influence others not only through space, but through time.
