Calming Sunset

Lianne C.

  • My artwork was originally created for the still-life unit for my art class. It was my first time using fancy graphite art pencils, but I also enjoyed drawing because before the unit I was used to drawing different characters and outlining them with pen. Using graphite pencils was a big upgrade. I was trying to think of ideas for my still life and at the time I couldn't think of any object I could find to draw. That was until I found a beautiful cloudy sunset as I was walking home from school a few hours after. I saw different shadows being cast on different houses and trees in my neighborhood. The transition from a bright late afternoon to a dark evening was evident. I wanted to capture what I saw on my art piece, and I made sure to press the pencil in different ways to be able to cast the shadows.

  • Exploring and expressing my creativity allows me to have that freedom to portray whatever I want through my art. Iā€™m able to articulate my thoughts and feelings on paper, and I also love experimenting with other mediums to help me improve on to what extent my art will become.
