Calling, The Intersection of Pressure and Purpose, 22 Things That Happened Last Week

This collection of poems explores three distinct yet interconnected experiences of adolescence. Taking inspiration from D.A. Powell's poem "Calling All Gods," my poem "Calling" explores the circumstances of an existence bound by human flesh. My second poem, "the intersection of pressure and purpose," merges the form and style of E.E. Cummings with the day-to-day anxieties and hopes of a typical AP student. My third poem, "22 things that happened last week (or why i should be exempt from finals)" is a list peom. Containing many voices from college rejection to legal validity, the list subsides into a single conversation of shock, secrets, and cognitive dissonance.
As a writer of creative nonfiction, my poetry not only draws inspiration from my personal experiences, but it recreates them. Through my poetry, I seek deeper truths about my own life. I also hope to extend my life to readers to contemplate life from new perspectives and to seek understanding over our common experiences.

Creative writing allows me to cope with my experiences and existence. Writing is truly a lifeline for me when all else fails. It empowers me to understand the nature of myself and the world in a more meaningful way.
