Your Song by E. John

Zach L.

  • "I hope you don’t mind that I put it down in words how wonderful life is while you’re in the world." -Bernie Taupin

A postcard I bought from Fisherman’s Wharf sits on my desk with this quote written on it. People say music heals. This lyric exemplifies this idea perfectly.

After watching the film Rocketman, I was inspired by the challenges that Reginald Dwight, who later became known by his stage name Elton John, faced throughout his life. I sympathized with his suppressed childhood and confused identity.

Your Song, being one of his first collaborations with Bernie Taupin, felt like my song. I believe it helps instill this feeling that even though life may have been going through a rough patch, there’s always that certain someone that makes things better.

For me, that individual is my little sister. She is someone I can always turn to when I need advice, and vice versa. I believe that there is nothing stronger than a sibling bond, and I feel lucky to have her by my side.

  • Creativity is the fuel of life. Without it, we would not see progress in areas like science, technology, and art. I see creativity as an artist’s palette. It holds the potential for creation: colors, texture, and elevation. It’s up to the individual to implement these aspects in their masterpiece.
