Tea with the Vikings (Teapot)

Owen S.

  • For this assignment, I was asked to make a teapot of anything that we wanted to do out of slab or coils. I have been working for 4 years in ceramics and with each project, I try to take on a higher challenge. I knew the Viking ship teapot would be difficult, but what I have learned is that when I have a 2D idea I can always put it into 3D if I spend enough time and work it out piece by piece. From there, I have to mold the clay into what I want it to be, as sometimes the clay has a mind of its own. For this project, I spent extra time with my glazing and discovered that my ability to glaze in detail has improved greatly over my time working in ceramics.

  • Creativity is a way for me to get away from my other subjects and express myself through an imagination that I can't always show otherwise.
