I’ve started and deleted each of these pieces countless times. They were either not good enough, too cliche, or didn’t exactly explain the feelings I was trying to make sense of. I started and stopped and started again, but it wasn’t until I stopped looking for inspiration in other people’s writing, and started acknowledging what was real to me that writing felt like a release; an exhale. Revising this collection required that I relive certain experiences and pain I’d rather leave in the past, but it also forced me to acknowledge the healing and growth that came with it. The process of writing these pieces showed me that poetry can be both painful and restorative, and I’m glad that it’s unlocked a new perspective on my writing experience.

Creativity means taking risks and trusting yourself. It's letting your imagination take over without letting logic or insecurity get in the way.
