Masking

"Masking", is a short film I made for an in-class assignment. My Film teacher had just pitched to us our new project: a nightmare dream sequence using symbolism. Immediately I had no clue what to do but after some thinking and brainstorming, I came up with a short, simple idea that would do the trick efficiently. Instead of taking the normal "horror" approach to a nightmare, I took from my personal experience, and made a film focused around what I like to call, "social nightmares". Nightmares that involve friends betraying you, or your overall self-image being distorted. From then on, I had an idea. I was going to keep it simple; a boy is walking down the street when he's confronted by four of his friends who suddenly start mocking him. They laugh and laugh and laugh until suddenly, he's somewhere else?..... This is where I hit a slight roadblock. I needed some sort of symbolism, and then it came to me- I was going to use a bag of some sort, wrap it around someone's head, and have it reflect the part of people that want to just hide and mask away their insecurities.
"Masking" is an efficient short film that centers itself around something that every teen has faced in their life: insecurities. With a short, mystically mysterious, and spooky execution, it delivers its message without containing a single piece of spoken dialog.

Creativity is the expression of art. However one chooses to express that art is their own choice, but it is a perfect representation of one's identity and heart.
