Young Greek Philosopher

Stella W.

Black pen on paper

  • Two summer vacation trips inspired this artwork. In 2023, I visited Paris, where one of my favorite paintings was ”A Sunday Afternoon On The Island of La Grande Jatte” (Georges Seurat) at the Musee d’Orsay. Then, in 2024, I visited Athens, Greece, as part of a two-week trip through the Mediterranean. I visited the Museum of Ancient Agora, where I saw a statue of Socrates. I thought depicting a young philosopher using the pointillism technique would be great. I only used black ink to emphasize the light and shadow effects on the face.

  • To me, creativity is the ultimate form of self-expression. It is a chance for individuals to leave the world of “right and wrong” and “black and white” and enter a universe of the imagination where social and economic structures do not exist.
