• Artist Statement

  While creating this piece with charcoal pencils and sticks, I considered issues in the world today that reflect itself in our future collectively. The background is supposed to show the movement of life, similar to how the city appears to be spinning behind the debris of present war. A dark atmosphere, but one that warns of a dystopian future lurking in the background of many writers’ and dreamers’ thought processes. Therefore, while making this charcoal piece, I experimented with shadow, movement, and texture in an attempt to create a believable scene.

• Creative Statement

  To me, creativity is the ideas contributing to a goal or a single person’s interpretation of a set prompt. The ability to see the world through your own personal lens and use this to find inspiration to create is very important to me and, I’m sure, many others.
