My word is ”conformity” and the duality of conformity is ”deviance/difference.” Conformity is to control and manipulate things to be the same and to mindlessly follow. I wanted to use puppets to show this manipulation and control over another, and contrast this with the puppet breaking free from this control. I used texture paste to create a border around the paintings and painted it gold to look aged and gilded to be reminiscent of medieval art. I also added a banner on the bottom of each painting, saying “him” and “hym” (hymn) to symbolize one’s control and praising/celebrating freedom.

To me, creativity is the mix of imagination and skill to turn something invisible visible. It is to transform one’s ideas, emotions, and experiences into something tangible and for it to connect with others.
