The Good King

Josiah S.

  • This artwork was created with the idea of justification in mind, where if you justify doing one bad thing then you will keep doing worse and worse things. Additionally, the artwork serves as a warning about those who have or could have absolute power. I started writing this story on election day and I finished it about two and a half weeks later, after the winner had been announced. The outcome and the reactions of those around me helped guide the story along during edits and revisions. In the story, a young King is faced with several challenges during his reign, and each challenge forces him to make harder and harder decisions. All the while, he tries to make lives better for everyone under his rule and make his kingdom a utopia. At some point, he loses this goal and strives to be a powerful King, not a good one.

  • To me, creativity isn’t spoken in talent, but ideas. If you have an idea, even if you can’t voice it, draw it, write it, build it, etc, you are a creative person. These ideas don’t even have to be a story or a picture, they just need to be there.
