• Artist Statement

  For the final project of my English Seminar, ”The Body Electric,” we were given the option to pursue a creative endeavor in collaboration with AI. Since we read Frankenstein, I worked with ChatGPT to co-create a Frankenstein-themed dance routine, feeding the machine this general prompt: “choreograph eight 8 counts of a Frankenstein-themed hip hop piece.” Although I specified otherwise, the final piece was heavily influenced by lyrical/contemporary styles. ChatGPT titled each 8 count it produced, following a Frankenstein-themed timeline, i.e.
  “Frankenstein’s Graceful Build Up” and “Monstrous Climax & Conclusion.” Within each 8 count, it provided me with vague directions per 2 counts (for example, ”Counts 1-2: Spin with your right hand up”), which I would then interpret and choreograph in my own (human) way! Through this process, I learned how human dance is—even if a robot were to accurately mimic human movements, it could never convey the emotions of a piece.
