Starlight is based on a personal encounter I had while volunteering at a local clinic in my community. While closing the clinic for the night, a middle-aged homeless lady approached me in hopes that the clinic offered mental health services because she was having a harder time fighting off the urge to resort to street substance use. She wanted to remember her daughter who she had given up for adoption several years ago and knew that once she resorted to drugs or other substances, her already faint memories of her daughter would start to fade even more and she wanted to spiritually be in a righteous mind for her daughter. And so, Starlight tells the fictional story of Sarah’s daughter if she had stayed with her mother and the everlasting, loving bond of a mother-daughter relationship.
