Sokkochi (Bay Laurel) / I used to like children

Lachlan M.

  • I chose two moments that are a prominent part of my life: when my family and I drive up to Point Reyes, where we hike and spend time together, but I am often dragged along to do things with them. My other poem is about a singular moment when I was a CIT, when I almost hurt a kid badly. That moment scarred me, especially since my actions could have harmed him. In that moment, I am brought back to my childhood years, in which people telling me ”no” or ”stop” to what I was doing always made me upset. I struggled to tell him stop before he hurt himself, because of how I felt as a kid.

  • Creativity is inspiration and ideas that are your own. Creativity is painting a picture (metaphorically and literally) that an audience has never seen before. Creativity is something that can’t be artificially recreated.
