This movie originated from a musing of mine when I wondered how the experiences of someone that continues to experience nyctophobia (a phobia of darkness) after early childhood. I then chose to use this as an opportunity to explore family dynamics, further demonstrating how irrational fear could impede relationships. I endeavored to make this aspect of my piece clear, by placing the boy ’s head in small, constricted areas of space, whilst also allowing his mother to dominate the frame. I also intentionally never showed her face to help render her both emotionally and socially inaccessible. To edit, I used the free version of Davinci Resolve, making full use of its color grading suite and audio tracks to maximize the quality and consistency of my work. Overall, I’d say this project was an exercise in simplifying a script and its characters to instead explore fear and human relationships.

To me, creativity is a person’s capacity to apply knowledge in unique and artistic ways to certain subjects/topics, in order to develop a better understanding of life, human relationships, and creativity itself. I prefer to explore these topics as well as express myself through film and short stories.
