Usually when I make art, I draw vehicles that I see in my everyday life, most of which are cars. I saw this Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra glide near my school, and despite my usual leanings towards automobiles as my muse, I decided to snap a picture of this Harley for later. I began with a sketch of the motorcycle in graphite pencil, followed by an outline in fine tip pen. I went through the piece with varying thicknesses of fine tip black pens, crosshatching to create lights and darks. I continued by going over the piece with greyscale alcohol markers, and then finished with highlights with a white posca pen. I also used an orange marker to highlight the orange bits of the motorcycle that stood out against the black. I chose this piece because it represents for me a step outside my comfort zone and typical medium.

Creativity for me is an outlet. When I think creatively or make art, I’m letting go of my brain and my thoughts and I’m allowing them to float away from my mind while I create. Creativity allows me to disconnect with the world and connect with my free thinking side.
