Northern Exposure

Erin B.

  • Seeing the Northern lights from my front door last May was an incredible experience. This was the first time I had ever seen the Aurora Borealis and it was hard to believe that I didn’t have to travel farther north in order to see it. Photographing it, however, was difficult; it took me hours to perfect the shutter speed so the faint aurora and the movement of the stars were visible. I stayed up until 12 am, using a tripod and a 5-minute exposure to best capture the aurora to the north of my house. Afterwards, I lightly edited the photo using Adobe Lightroom. Even at midnight, the sky is busy with planes, satellites, and light pollution. Sometimes looking beyond our fast-paced lives can help remind us how vast and amazing the universe is. Looking at my photo encourages me to be more curious about the natural world around me.

  • To me, creativity is the ability to combine my experiences, beliefs, thoughts, and observations into anything I work on to evoke curiosity and inspiration in others.
