My home, the creek

Quinlyn S.

Acrylic paint

  • I created this artwork using acrylic paint and the “en plein air” technique inspired by Monet’s famous Waterlilies series. This piece is part of my series By the Creek, where I explore the interplay of friendship and nature, celebrating the connection between the people and places that shape who I am. The composition is based on a park I’ve visited frequently with my friends and family since I was born. A small creek runs through the park, downtown, and past my house. This artwork is even more meaningful to me, because I painted it while accompanied by my friend Daya Vera, who constantly inspires me. She shares my love for creating art, but through music and poetry instead. My home, the creek is a love letter to my friends and the small town that raised me.

  • To me, creativity offers a sense of self-expression, freedom, and connection. I’m able to show people how I feel through the artwork I create. I feel most seen when people find a way to interpret the underlying meanings of my paintings.
