King’s Gaze

Viraja S.

  • This lion had recently been attacked by its pride and was alone with its two cubs and their mother. His majestic gaze spoke of quiet leadership and strength; the faint scars on his face reflected resilience, while his weathered fur hinted at wisdom beyond understanding. As my camera’s shutter caught his attention, I felt both intimidated and awed by his presence. Despite facing battles, disrespect, and hardship, he remained a steadfast protector for his family. This moment inspired me to pursue animal photography, capturing the natural world’s beauty—whether I photograph lions, zebras, or birds. The connections animals form with each other are remarkable and often beyond human comprehension. The more I observe them, the more I feel connected, striving to emulate their loyalty and love. I hope my images inspire others to appreciate and cherish animals while we still can.

  • Creativity, to me, is the ability to tell a story. Through my art, I aim to raise awareness about climate change and the rapid extinction of the beautiful creatures I photograph. My lens not only captures fleeting moments but also advocates for the preservation of our planet’s fragile ecosystems.
