Festival de San Marcos (Oaxaca MX.)

There is a small pueblo nestled in the mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico called San Marcos Arteaga. The town is sparsely populated, with only about 700 residents. Every year these little towns have their patron saint celebration. It takes place over a few days, it includes festivals and parades all through town dancing, singing, drinking, and eating, but every pueblo has a unique tradition. San Marcos has dancers with live fireworks shooting from the tops of their heads. When taking the photo I had to use a quicker shutter speed to prevent motion blur but simultaneously had to use a higher ISO since it was past noon. San. Marcos also faces energy insecurity so there aren’t many street lights in town. My goal was to capture the beauty that can be found in these pueblos you might stumble upon in the middle of the mountains.

Creativity, to me, is being in a space—whether literal or a headspace—in which you can put down the images in your mind into your medium. Often, I see images in my mind that I think would make good photos, so creativity is capturing those photos in real life.
