From Shadows to Spotlight

Skylah T.

  • I’ve always been the shy and reserved kind of girl, who’s happy to stay in the shadows and unnoticed. I have always found myself comfortable blending in and didn’t mind when people seemed to forget I was there. But something changed when I found dance. Little did I know, dancing lit something up in me, and for the first time, I enjoyed being in the spotlight. When I first stepped on stage, I felt a confidence I’d never experience before, like I could finally express myself without holding back. It almost felt magical. When I dance, I can just let go, as if no one’s watching. When I get off the stage, immediately I’m back to that quiet, reserved girl. I am continuing to learn more about myself everyday, hoping that someday, I can find that same confidence when I’m not dancing.

  • Creativity is something that just appears in my head and when I try to visualize it, I express it in movement and dance.
