Flowers that Didn’t Bloom

This collection is centered on unexpressed feelings. ”i love you like a ghost” is about Whitney. Confident and sharp-tongued, she embodies everything the unsophisticated narrator feels she is not. The narrator feels like a ghost; because she hides her feelings for Whitney (simply floating in her vicinity), and eventually becomes one as Whitney kills her. ”take me alive”, details the way I see my religious and queer sides interacting and clashing. ”Lilith” symbolizes everything in my life that goes against the church. Believed to be Adam’s first wife in Mesopotamian/Jewish mythology, she was banished from Eden for not following his orders. Though some of the content seems larger than life, the characters are amalgamations of girls who were all in a way, unattainable. Both these poems talk about connections that didn’t come to fruition and were left to falter and die over time, like a flower that never bloomed.
