Bioluminescence: The Ocean Deep

Michael C.

  • Bioluminescence: The Ocean Deep opens with a gong, symbolizing the ocean’s vastness and hidden wonders. The snare motif begins the moonlit journey into the dark waters as shimmering chords evoke the mesmerizing bioluminescent light that flashes along the surface. Descending deeper, dissonance appears as the melodic line becomes erratic, reflecting a disorientation and struggle to navigate the underwater world. The bongo and bass drum rhythms drive the descent, with the snare solo representing the approach of near-total darkness. A faint glow emerges, portrayed by the vibraphone which is slowly joined by the other instruments. A crescendo and an altered motif represent the surprising lights encountered in the abyss: from the golden sparkle of gossamer worms to the pinwheel of light of the red crown jelly. Concluding with a sense of wonder at the unique beauty in the depths, the final chord of the vibraphone begins the ascent to the surface.

  • Creativity is the freedom to express myself through music. Creativity is how new and original ideas work together to tell a story through notes on a page. It can paint a picture of a landscape through pure sound.
