I found this kitten while walking around O’ahu in Hawaii this summer. It was one of many stray cats I found around the island that looked sick. I went over and it started meowing softly at me but wouldn’t move, I think it was injured. I took this photo through the gap in an old, rusting fence leading to a scrap yard of abandoned cars with plants overrunning the vehicles. No one was around and the kitten wouldn’t come near enough for me to help, so I took this photo to remember him. He was one of many and I submitted this photo because I felt it exemplified the raw vulnerability I saw in his eyes and the eyes of all the other strays on the island.

Creativity is an outlet for emotion. It is the way in which I can show my perspectives and feelings on a specific situation without words. It transcends the need for communication verbally and instead speaks for my thoughts in a way words never can.
