Drowning in Deadlines

Neil G.

Acrylic, Paper

  • This artwork is about the stress that me and many other students face with the amount of homework, tests, projects, etc... that we get in school. This generally leads to students feeling burnt out and unmovitated. I wanted to capture this in my painting, so I painted myself in a worn out position with papers surrounding me, using the keywords ”TEST” ”FINAL” ”STUDY”, etc... to help show how for me and many high schoolers, school is just one test after the next. I used actual pieces of my homework as the paper used in the painting, and I used acrylic to create a neutral/cool background, symbolizing the depressed feel of the painting. I also made a contrast between the hand and the sweater to emphasize the fist, and how it shows resignation because it’s in a relaxed position on the table.

  • To me, creativitiy means the ability to be able to think outside the box and convey ideas in a way that other people would not think of doing. It means being able to use your own thoughts for problem solving purposes.
