Dance Beyond Words

Jordan L.

  • Hula is an expressive dance form that originates from Hawaii, and through my choreography, I have sought to illustrate the concept of ”Dance Beyond Words.” By integrating traditional hula movements with sign language, I enrich the storytelling aspect of this art, allowing deeper emotions and connections to emerge. I chose a natural setting at my school, facing the trees, to evoke harmony with the environment, emphasizing the unity between movement and nature. The song “How Far I’ll Go” resonates deeply with me, inspiring exploration of diverse hula rhythms and gestures. With the invaluable guidance of my dance teacher, I crafted choreography that reflects my personal journey and growth as both a dancer and an artist. As a student at a non-public school, I take pride in the progress I’ve made—not only in dance but also in my development as an individual.

  • Throughout my life, I have embraced various artistic mediums, each offering its own therapeutic solace, especially during my lowest moments. Hula, in particular, has become a powerful expression of my identity and resilience, allowing me to celebrate my growth as a dancer, artist, and person.
