Anomaly

Carys H.

  • As a teenage girl, I’ve really struggled with stereotypes and the consequences of nonconformity. To express my emotions on this, I have been writing a dystopian novel centered around a thirteen year old girl named Lyrik, who lives in a future society with a government that relies on enforcing strict societal unity and organization to maintain their control. At the age of five, children in this society are given a device that tells them who they should be by providing them with information on society’s standards and expectations of them as they grow older. The excerpted scene shows an example of this sense of complete unification, highlighted by the students’ behavior. We also begin to see what reactions deviations from this unity are met with.

  • I love expressing myself creatively, whether that means writing a novel, sketching objects, painting, building, or even sculpting. For me, creativity is like a bridge between imagination and reality, allowing me to translate abstract ideas and thoughts into a more concrete form of art.
