Against the Light

This poem is based off of the years I spent in middle school. There, I was hated by so many people because of my education status. I was told that I would never get anywhere if I kept on trying so hard. I have been writing poems since 5th grade and stopped because of all the harsh comments. Once I got to freshman year, I told people of my poetry and so many people encouraged me to try again. At first writing was difficult, but it got easier as a kept on going. I kept on thinking about my experiences that I had before, and started writing what I knew. I wrote about what it felt like to be so hated by everyone around yo, how I kept myself going when it was like that.

It means expressing my experiences into words. To me it also means creating a world of my own through poetry, short stories, and paintings, which can all influence each other. I use the creativity that I possess to shape my life into a place that I feel safe in.
