You Found Me!

  • This is a film I made during my summer program this year about a bear trying to rebuild his old childhood home. I grew up adoring student films, and from what I knew they always had an impactful meaning and left you with positive feelings; which is something I’ve always wanted to achieve with my own work. I took a lot of creative risks with this film while honing in on the skills that I already possessed. We were instructed to use both analog and digital media, so it was a long process of cutting out the characters and using stop motion, but it was all worth it. We were told to make our films about a minute less, so I focused on the message about healing your inner-child. I wanted to make it easy to pick up on, but ambiguous enough that people could interpret it differently. I used different mediums like watercolors and cutouts to differentiate between the main character in present-time vs. his younger self. When I think about creating art that relates to your own life, I tend to drift towards the depressing and melancholic—as that’s what I’ve believed to make your experiences mean something. After the creation of this film, however, I realized that it could be sweet and warm and still touch the hearts of whoever my art applied to. Even now, this film is a project I'm extremely proud of and hold close to my heart. Please enjoy!

  • Creativity and making art is how I personally navigate the world, and it's my way of connecting with people on a deeper level than words will take me. It's second nature to me, and I don't go a day without creating something. It's a form of love to me.
