The Mist Trail: A Familiar Place in a New Way

  • This photo is one of the first photos I’ve taken that has impressed me. I’ve been interested in taking photos for a while but I only started taking photos with a DSLR about a year and a half ago when I started taking a photography class. When I took this photo was one of the first times I took a lot of photos that were not for an assignment, they were simply because I love taking photos and I was in a beautiful place. This photo is of the Merced River along the Mist Trail in Yosemite National Park. I've hiked the Mist Trail countless times since I was young and I’ve always thought it was beautiful. This was my first time there in the snow. My family went to Yosemite for the weekend. I thought it would be fun to take my camera and take a few photos. I ended up shooting the whole time, I took many more photos than I thought I would. This was one of the first times I realized you could make beautiful things without a thoroughly thought-out plan. The conditions were particularly hard that day because it was so bright and I was taking shots that were mainly white from snow. I was so proud that I could properly expose my photos. I chose this photo because I’m proud of it, the experience that surrounds it has taught me a lot, and I think it shows my progress but also room for growth.

  • Creativity to me means being able to create something that means something to someone, even if it’s just one person, making someone feel something is what creativity is about.
