The Businessman

Kate J.

Acrylic on canvas

  • I made this painting in seventh grade. It was a statement on the degrading pressure of the real work world of today. The gun hand represent societies pressure to succeed and to grow economically while holding the "American Dream" together, a seemingly impossible task to the man pictured, who's face is covered by a clock expressing that time is money and he seems to be lounging on a couch. He sits on the couch with a spilled vase beside him and guns pointed to his head, proving he never gets a break from the burden. Also, on the wall behind the man is a picture being covered by the gun hands which is a baby picture of my sister and I. This relates the painting back to me and my burden of high expectations in a world ruled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Creativity is the ability to express yourself in any means you know how to best show yourself in your truest form. Creativity is also exploring the person you are. Everyone has creativity it simply comes down to figuring out how to best express it.
