Remembering Amy Winehouse

Ben B.

Charcoal and Pencil

  • I created this piece with charcoal, depicting Amy Winehouse photographed at the Brit Awards in 2007. I was inspired by Dia de los Muertos, and I created this Amy Winehouse piece to honor her. Before I worked with charcoal, I outlined the whole drawing in pencil. I used charcoal to capture the details of Amy's face. The original photo I used to reference Amy was in color, but I changed it to black and white to show all the shadows and details. With charcoal, I had to do a lot of blending, and capturing Amy's distinct face and style was challenging.

  • Creativity means the freedom to express myself. I can relax and focus on the art when I am in art class. It's a vital part of my life experience and my personality. Art class is a supportive and positive environment.
