Prelude in F Major, BWV 927, by J.S. Bach

Out of all the Bach pieces I’ve played, this prelude holds a special place in my heart. F major represents peace and joy, exactly the feelings this prelude gives me. It's fun and flighty, so for this submission I’ve tried to play the song in a way that felt the most fun to play. Here are some details I observed about the piece. The left hand is constantly in spaced legato (almost portamente) which was an enjoyable texture to learn the song with. Bach also tends to have a freestyle section at the ends of his preludes, which I enjoy because I'm allowed to further interpret the feeling of the music artistically. When I read it, I imagine someone feeling celebratory, content, and grand after a success, so I emphasized the notes in the freestyle section with victory. The song was a pinky-heavy song but I’d recently crushed my pinky and index at kung fu and they took some time to recover. Ultimately, all’s well that ends. Prelude was a perfect fit as an audition piece under 5 minutes to learn within a month, and I'm glad to have learned it. Thank you Bay Area Creative Youth Awards. This was an encouraging creative exercise for me, and I'm excited to submit music again in the future. I’ll be looking back on this piece with love.

To me, an individual's creativity means expressing their interpretation or view of the world. We all have our unique perspectives, making creativity simultaneously a universal quality as well as something that remains unique to every individual. In my playing, I hope to effectively portray joy the way I experience it.
